"Incorporating the following sustainability measures on your next construction or renovation project can save you money and time, while helping make your property more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The RDN has started a voluntary incentive program with rebates in all RDN Electoral Areas, and in the District of Lantzville. Financial incentives are only available to homeowners and owner-builders, however commercial and institutional developers can also access staff resources and gain recognition by completing the Sustainable Development Checklist."

LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program

"Solar Colwood is a demonstration of a whole community moving towards energy conservation and renewable clean energy. Its focus is on solar thermal hot water heating and energy efficient retrofits to homes and businesses, while including emerging technologies such as ductless split heat pumps, Smart Home/Smart Grid technologies, energy efficient/smart appliances, solar photovoltaics, geo-exchange, district energy solutions, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Solar Colwood takes ACTION to create jobs, reduce energy costs for homeowners and businesses, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while LEARNING how best to support this change and sharing this with others. "Through a grant from Natural Resources Canada’s Clean Energy Fund and other funding partners such as BC Hydro, the City of Colwood will be providing incentives towards solar thermal hot water heating systems, ductless split heat pumps, home energy monitoring systems and more. Details of the program are being finalized, and the City hopes to launch the program and begin retrofits in May 2011. The goal is to retrofit 1,000 homes over the three year program. The incentives will be greatest for those who join the program early. The first ten homes will receive a $3,800 incentive towards the cost of solar hot water heating; the next 200 homes will receive $3,000 each. An energy assessment will help you to identify other energy- and cost-saving retrofits, and our program coordinator will be working to make this process easy for homeowners to take part.
